Kentucky’s U.S. Senate candidates — incumbent Republican Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Amy McGrath — participated Monday in what likely will be their only appearance together before the Nov. 3 general election.
During the debate, only the moderator and candidates were in the studio, and McConnell and McGrath were at least 20 feet from one another with plexiglass shields between them, WKYT news director Robert Thomas said.
As an added precaution, all employees scheduled to work in the Lexington television station’s building during the debate were tested for COVID-19. Also, each campaign was asked to keep its number of guests to a minimum.
Viewers in Western Kentucky can watch the debate on WKYT’s website and the station’s Facebook page.
