McConnell goes into rehab treatment following hospital discharge

The Kentucky Republican suffered a concussion and fractured rib in a March 8 fall at a hotel restaurant.

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, was discharged from the hospital on Monday following treatment for a concussion and a fractured rib that he suffered in a fall on March 8.

The Kentucky Republican leader in the Senate will continue his recovery in a rehabilitation facility, a spokesman said.

“At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home,” said David Popp, communications director.

Initial reports indicated McConnell suffered a concussion. Popp said the fractured rib was discovered over the weekend.

McConnell, 81, fell at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, where he was attending a private dinner following a Senate Leadership Fund reception, according to an Associated Press report

His spokesman did not say where or how long the senator will be in rehab care.

“It is unclear how his extended absence will affect Senate proceedings. The Senate returns to Washington Tuesday evening after the weekend off and is scheduled to be in session for the rest of March,” the AP reported.
