Mayor James R. Knight Jr. will present the first budget proposal of his administration at 9 a.m. Friday, May 12, at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center, 715 S. Virginia St. The public may attend the news conference in city council chambers or watch a livestream on the city’s YouTube channel.
The council will consider the spending plan during a series of Committee of the Whole meetings slated for 6 p.m. on May 18, May 25 and June 1 (if needed), states a press release from the mayor’s office. The budget requires two votes for passage before the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
Knight took office in January, the third Republican mayor in Hopkinsville in recent history, following Carter Hendricks and Herb Hays. He serves with the first all-Republican council in Hopkinsville’s history.
This story was updated to correct the omission of Carter Hendricks as a Republican mayor in Hopkinsville.
