Local students earn top 2 honors in Congressional Art Competition

Christian County High School students Lily Hughes and Catherine Poland both won for race horse themed artwork.

Two students at Christian County High School received top honors in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District, the office of Rep. James Comer announced in a press release. Both students entered race horse themed art.

Lily Hughes received first place for her drawing of a jockey titled “Repeller Man.” Her artwork will be displayed in U.S. Capitol alongside other youth artists from across the country. 

Earning second place was Catherine Poland for her piece of three horses running on a track titled “To the Finish Line.” Her artwork will be displayed in Comer’s Washington, D.C., office.

““Each year, I’m inspired by the creativity and talent of high school artists from across Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District,” Comer said in the release. “This year was no exception — my office received outstanding submissions that truly showcased the artistic excellence of our local students.”
