Little River Music Society will perform free Christmas concert Friday

The society's 49 singers, along with a brass ensemble, will perform a mix of classical music, spirituals and popular holiday songs.

“I think it will be a beautiful time for people,” assistant director Kyle Rader said.

The concert is free and serves as a sort of kick off to several holiday events in Hopkinsville this weekend, including the Christmas parade that begins at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, he noted.

The Little River Music Society was established by music educator Barbara Felts following her retirement from Hopkinsville High School. Rader said the group is a “hodge-podge of people who like to get together and sing.”

A brass ensemble will perform with the Little River Music Society members.

The concert will be about an hour long. Selections will include a mix of classic music, spirituals and popular songs. Expect to hear “Jingle Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” Rader said. Also, the audience will have an opportunity to sing along for at least one selection.

Second Baptist Church is at 720 W. Seventh St.
