The Jeffers Bend Environmental Center has an enlarged parking lot made possible by the current class of Leadership Christian County and several community partners.
Class members and their helpers spread gravel on Friday to enlarge the parking lot, which will increase visitor access and improve event accommodations, organizers said in a press release.
“We are especially grateful to Rogers Group for their generous gravel donation and to [Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority] for their machinery and hauling support,” class member Liz Grant said in the press release. “I’m also incredibly thankful to my boss, Bill Petersen, for sending a couple of team members to lend a hand. This truly was a community effort.”
It is a tradition for each Leadership Christian County class to identify and execute a community improvement project.
“Jeffers Bend is a vital outdoor resource for Hopkinsville and the surrounding community, offering environmental education programs, nature trails, and recreational activities for families and students alike,” the release states. “The expanded parking area will make it easier for visitors to access and enjoy all that Jeffers Bend has to offer.”
Jeffers Bend is located on the northern edge of Hopkinsville, off Metcalfe Lane. The walking trails are open from dawn to dusk. One of the most popular events at Jeffers Bend — Take Kids Fishing Day — is set to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 24.
