LBL considering smartphone app following public input

Officials hope to develop informative, downloadable apps that would allow visitors to take self-guided tours.

Land Between the Lakes is continuing to seek public input to shape a “21st Century Recreation” plan.

The “Forward to the Future” campaign is part of the overall plan and launched a year ago and gathers feedback through workshops and online at landbetweenthelakes.mindmixer.com.

Customer Service Representative Jeff Laird says three draft objectives gathered at a recent public meeting include improving cell phone connectivity coverage, establishing new funding streams and developing a cultural heritage resource program.

Laird is hoping to develop informative, downloadable apps that would allow visitors to take self-guided tours. “Things like a cell phone app that would identify where people are at Land Between the Lakes and allow them to stop at certain sites and learn more about the cultural heritage across the property,” Laird said.

Laird says he will take public comments for the recreation plan until mid-July ahead of the next public meeting, which has not yet been scheduled. He said the comments will shape the agenda for the next sustainability meeting. He said feedback on the online platform is viewed weekly.

He said comments are helping create a specific vision of the area’s sustainability and programs for the next 10 to 15 years.
