Area residents who like the experience of cutting their own Christmas tree can go to Land Between the Lakes for a free cedar tree Nov. 25 to Dec. 24. A permit is required and must be obtained online.
“Taking the family out into the woods to look for the perfect Christmas tree is a great holiday tradition. Check along roadsides or within old forest openings to find your tree,” Yvonne Antes, silviculturist at LBL, said in a press release. “The cedar tree program also helps Land Between the Lakes maintain open lands and promote diverse wildlife habitat.”
Only cedar trees less than 10 feet tall may be cut. Chain saws are permitted but not heavy equipment such as winches. Additional rules are available on the reservations page.
