Dan Mason

Republican

candidate for

Judge-Executive,
Christian County
Dan Mason, 43, of Dawson Springs Road, is a contract registered nurse who specializes in critical and emergency care. He’s a former nursing supervisor for Jennie Stuart Health and previously worked for Toyoda Gosei Automotive Sealing Kentucky. Mason got interested in the judge-executive’s race partly because of the controversy over a slaughterhouse proposed near Pembroke in 2021. He was among residents who opposed the facility before company officials backed out.

If elected, how would you help address the housing shortage?

I would convene the finest minds we have in Christian County to look at our demographic trends, projected population growth and the demographic segments of our population that are struggling with housing costs. Then, devise a plan tailored to the construction of new private housing, and ensure that Community and Development Services works as an asset and not a hindrance to the process.

If elected, how would you work together with government, nonprofit and business leaders to encourage economic development?

We need a better business climate. We’ll do that by making sure that all businesses in Christian County have access to high-speed broadband. We need a full and complete audit of county government to discern how we can provide essential services for less. Savings will be devoted to reducing the local tax burden. I will also listen to what restaurant owners and retail businesses have to say. One common complaint I hear is that few public officials ever ask.

If elected, how would you support tornado recovery and the development of rural storm shelters?

No community can be fully prepared for what Mother Nature may bring. And few can rebuild without the help of the state and federal government. I would want to speak with residents of rural areas regarding the construction of rural storm shelters.

If elected, what specific steps would you take to help grow jobs in the area?

We need a better business climate. We’ll do that by making sure that all businesses in Christian County have access to high-speed broadband. Do you support reducing the county’s tax burden? If so, what steps would you take to make this happen?

We need a full and complete audit of county government to discern how we can provide essential services for less. Savings will be devoted to reducing the local tax burden.

Do you support the establishment of a library tax?

I would first do a full and complete audit of county government to discern if there are savings we can find without resorting to yet another tax on the citizens of Christian County.

If elected, how would you address health care inequalities and improve living conditions for low-income residents?

The best social program ever invented is a job. Robust creation of good jobs that pay good wages will lift all boats. Vital infrastructure is key. High-speed broadband so our small business owners can compete with those who already have it. Reliable cell phone service. Good schools. Safe roads without potholes.

Is there another issue not addressed in these questions that you believe is extremely important? If so, please explain it briefly.

The foundation of my campaign is government transparency. It is essential to our citizens that they are involved in the process of governing. To accomplish this goal, there will be a complete overhaul of the county website to the benefit of the taxpayer. The county budget will be available 24/7 for taxpayers to view on the county website along with a listing of every advisory board/committee in our local government. What they do. Who their members are. When and where they meet and how you can contact them. You will also be able to sign up to receive notifications of meetings and events to stay informed. There will also be a number of multimedia platforms utilized to ensure we reach our community. If this is an agenda you can agree with and support, I ask for your vote for Judge-Executive on May 17. The Good ol' Boys have had their day – it's time for a government that answers to us.
