Hoptown Hose Down postponed until Aug. 10

Local officials hope to revive Hoptown Hose Down on Aug. 10 at DeBow Recreational Complex, pending expiration of the statewide mask mandate.

Hoptown Hose Down, a popular traveling event that launched last week to allow attendees the opportunity to cool off “under the spray down of Hopkinsville Fire Department pumper truck water hoses,” has been postponed following the statewide mandate requiring Kentuckians to wear face coverings for the next 30 days.

“With the Governor’s mandate and the recent increase in COVID cases, we must postpone the Hose Down program,” said Hopkinsville Fire Chief Steve Futrell. “The safety and health of our community is always our No. 1 concern. We will work with Parks and Rec and the Health Department to monitor all issues, and hope to continue the program in the near future.”

Local officials hope to revive the Hose Down from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10 at DeBow Recreational Complex. The governor’s order, which will be evaluated during that time to determine any additional steps or extension, is set to end Aug. 9.
