Maj. Jason Swain, the new corps officer for the Hopkinsville Salvation Army, is set to begin work here with his appointment on Monday, June 22.
Swain has 28 years of experience as a Salvation Army officer and comes to Hopkinsville from Ashland, Kentucky, where he served for five years, officials said in a press release.
Prior to working in Ashland, he was at the national headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, and served as editor of The War Cry, which is Salvation Army’s national publication. He also has experience in youth work, finance and leadership roles in both small communities and large cities, the release states.
Community members are invited to meet Swain during a welcome Sunday service at 11 a.m. on June 28 at the Worship Center, 310 E. Seventh St.
“Officership is a calling, and one never expects that God will call you, but He does,” said Swain. “One day I heard a voice clearly say that I was needed, and so I went.”
He added, “Salvation Army officers wear many different hats on any given day. If the community has a need, give us a call, and maybe we can meet that need.”
