Hopkinsville residents explore forming National Action Network chapter

A meeting to discuss the civil rights organization is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Lane Tabernacle CME Church.

There will be a meeting at 6 p.m. Friday at Lane Tabernacle CME Church, First and Vine streets, to explore the possibility of creating a National Action Network chapter in Hopkinsville.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about the civil rights organization is invited to attend, said Hopkinsville resident George Sholar.

“We need new leadership in the community,” he said.

Organizers said Johnathon Lott, who is involved in state civil rights efforts, will be at the meeting to discuss the organization.

The National Action Network was established in 1991 by the Rev. Al Sharpton. According to the organization’s website, there is one local affiliation in Kentucky, the Louisville Metro chapter.
