Pioneers
Members of Pioneers will provide carry-out meals at the front door of its complex, 902 N. Main St., from 10 a.m. until noon on Thanksgiving Day. A men’s community service organization that raises funds through its catering service, Pioneers has provided free Thanksgiving meals for more than 38 years, club chairman William Brown said in a letter announcing plans for this year’s meal.
“We began with feeding approximately 150 servings,” Brown wrote. “We are now providing between 700 and 800 servings each Thanksgiving, and it is the highlight of our community service.”
Dinner Church
Volunteers for Community Dinner Church will provide carry-out meals beginning at 1 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Aaron McNeil House, 604. E. Second St.
Donna Williams, who established the dinner church in 2019, said she’s expecting to serve at least 400 meals. Her program, which runs entirely on donations and volunteers, provides an afternoon meal every Thursday.
Salvation Army
The Salvation Army will serve meals at its Soup Kitchen beginning around 11:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day. The entrance to the dining area is on bell hooks Way (formerly Eighth Street) behind the Carnegie Library. A Salvation Army employee said all of the meals will be served in-house. No carry-out meals are planned.
Micah Mission
Micah Mission, 209 S. Main St., will serve its meal from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. It will then be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Give-A-Gobble
Hoptown’s Give-A-Gobble pick-up meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at First Baptist Church, 1400 S. Main St. Those who would like a meal must register by Nov. 23. Delivery will be available for homebound registrants.
In addition to First Baptist, he participating churches and organizations are Bridge of Hope, Edgewood Baptist, McCarroll Hill Baptist and the Challenge House Movement.
