Burn bans for Hopkinsville and Christian County, issued on Sept. 12, were rescinded Wednesday after rainfall improved dry conditions.
In an announcement from Christian County Emergency Management, Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam said that the ban was lifted. A post Wednesday on the Hopkinsville Fire Department’s Facebook page said the city’s burn ban was canceled.
“The rainfall received has reduced the risk of wildfire spread, allowing for the safe lifting of the restrictions that were previously in place,” Gilliam said. “While the burn ban is no longer in effect, residents are reminded to use caution when conducting any outdoor burning activities. Safe practices help protect lives, property and the environment.”
Hopkinsville received 2.25 inches of rain on Thursday, according to the local Mesonet weather station.
