Three holiday movies are showing this weekend at the Alhambra Theatre downtown.

In a scene from “It’s a Wonderful Life,” George Bailey and his new wife, Mary, head off a bank run with money they had planned to use for a honeymoon trip.

First, at 7 p.m. Friday, is “Die Hard,” the 1988 film starring Bruce Willis as a New York City police officer who battles terrorists at a holiday party. The movie is rated R.

Showing at 4 p.m. Saturday is “Home Alone,” the 1990 film starring Macaulay Culkin as the precocious 8-year-old boy who outwits a pair of burglar to protect the home front after his family accidentally leaves him behind after everyone else heads to Paris for a family vacation. 

On Sunday “It’s a Wonderful Life,” shows at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. Frank Capra’s 1946 film — starring Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore — is the story of a beleagured, small-town businessman who learns what life would have been like without him after an angel is sent to save him from taking his own life. 

“It’s a Wonderful Life” has become an annual showing at the Alhambra in the days before Christmas.

“Home Alone” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” are both rated PG.

Esquire magazine has rated “It’s a Wonderful Life” as the best Christmas movie on a list of 50 top holiday classics.

Movie tickets are the Alhambra are $5. The theater sales drinks, snacks and popcorn.

The theater is at 507 S. Main St., next door to the Christian County Courthouse.
