Hold on: New Year’s weekend will be warmer

Cold temperatures will persist Tuesday but a warming trend will begin Wednesday.

After the bitter cold Christmas weather that hampered travel and some holiday plans with frozen water pipes and ice- and snow-packed roads, warmer days are in store for the New Year’s weekend in Western Kentucky.

Colder temperatures will persist through Tuesday evening with overnight lows in the 20s, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Wet streets could freeze again and be hazardous Tuesday morning, so drivers should watch for potential black ice.

But temperatures will climb into the 50s Wednesday and Thursday in Hopkinsville, followed by a chance of rain Thursday evening and again on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday’s high will be in the low 60s and New Year’s Day will be in the 50s. Overnight lows through the weekend will be in the mid-40s.
