Hoptown Chronicle will soon mark the fifth anniversary of our website launch, and to celebrate we’re joining the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County for a special History on Tap to highlight one of our best collaborations with a local organization.
The community is invited to join us at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Hopkinsville Brewing Co.
Museum executive director Alissa Keller and Hoptown Chronicle editor Jennifer P. Brown will share highlights of their favorite columns from Snapshots in Time, a series that digs into local history revealed through old photographs and artifacts.
Keller has written nearly 30 columns for Hoptown Chronicle since her first Snapshots article was published in December 2021.
“We’re going to pull back the curtain and describe how these stories were chosen, some of the surprises they uncovered, and why they resonate with life in Hopkinsville today,” Brown said.
Co-founded by Brown and engagement editor Julia Hunter, Hoptown Chronicle is an independent, nonprofit news outlet. The website launched on June 6, 2019, to provide public service journalism from the heart of downtown Hopkinsville.
“Snapshots in Time has been an ideal collaboration for a news outlet like Hoptown Chronicle because it relies on institutional knowledge and a keen understanding of the community,” Brown said. “I’ve appreciated that Alissa’s columns often teach us something about how things work in Hopkinsville today because of a remarkable link to our past.”
Hoptown Chronicle’s fifth anniversary celebration coincides with the 60th edition of History on Tap, a free series designed “to share local history in a relaxed, fun setting.” The programs are usually on the last Thursday of the month at the brewery.
