Here’s what you need to know about Hoptown Summer Salute

Summer Salute will feature rides, family activities, free concerts and more than 100 vendors and food trucks.

Hopkinsville’s Summer Salute, a downtown festival with free concerts, plus amusement rides and more than 100 vendors and food trucks, is Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26.

Headlining musical acts will include STARSHIP: Featuring Mickey Thomas on Friday and The Commodores on Saturday.

“This year’s Summer Salute will already be the biggest festival yet due to our two superstar headliners for the main stage,” said Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman in a press release. “We are pleased that the expanded footprint will offer additional availability to showcase more of our local vendors, and an even more exciting experience for festival attendees.”

The festival opens at 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday and runs until 10 p.m. both days. A festival map can be downloaded here. More information is available at HoptownSummerSalute.com.

Road closures

The festival will affect downtown traffic from 5 p.m. Thursday until 4 a.m. Sunday. During that period, Ninth Street will be closed from Seventh Street to South Main Street, and Bethel Street will be closed from Seventh Street to 10th Street, organizers said.

How to stay cool

A downtown church announced it will open its doors as a cooling station during Summer Salute. Bridge of Hope Fellowship, 1005 S. Main St., is offering its building as a place to cool off, get free bottled water and use the restroom. The church is a few doors down from Ferrell’s.
