The Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K will affect vehicle traffic on several city streets and county roads between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday, according to a press release from Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation.
In addition, Ninth Street from Seventh Street to Bethel Street will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday for race setup
More than 300 runners are expected to participate. Both races will begin on Main Street in front of the Hopkinsville Municipal Center and head south — the half marathon at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 8:20 a.m.
“The runners have been instructed to run on the right-hand side of the roads and will be accompanied by law enforcement in lead and trail vehicles,” the release states.
Hopkinsville police and Christian County sheriff’s officials will use a rolling barricade, and the routes will be marked by signage. Some streets will allow only one-way traffic during the races.
“Traffic control officers and other volunteers will be manning intersections to stop traffic as runners cross the intersections. Motorists are asked to exercise patience for the safety of everyone,” the release states.
