Every year since the mid-1980s, Grace Episcopal Church has provided a community outreach each Friday during the six weeks of Lent that includes a short religious service followed by lunch.
Members of Grace prepare and serve the meal. It’s become known as one of the best places in town for lunch during the holy season leading up to Easter.
The first service and luncheon were Friday, Feb. 28, with the Right Rev. Terry Allen White, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky, presiding for the service.
Each service begins at noon. Grace Episcopal is at Sixth and Liberty streets downtown. The church accepts an $8 donation for the meal. The schedule for the remainder of Lent is as follows:
- March 6 — Deacon Becca Kello, of the Episcopal Campus Ministry at Western Kentucky University; luncheon hosts Pam Vance and Danielle White.
- March 13 — the Rev. Wade Miller, pastor of First Christian Church; luncheon host Kris Gavitt.
- March 20 — the Rev. Mitchell Fort, pastor of Virginia Street Baptist Church; luncheon host Roxane Thomas.
- March 27 — Marcella B. Henderson, licensed clinical social worker; luncheon hosts Gail Blane and Joyce Cornett.
- April 3 — the Rev. Father Richard Meredith, pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church; luncheon hosts Ginny Lawson and Tweetie White.
