Christian County has 21 active cases of confirmed COVID-19 and three previously diagnosed cases in which the patient has recovered, the Christian County Health Department said Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after the health department sent out its daily report, Gov. Andy Beshear said in his daily briefing that Western State Hospital, the psychiatric hospital in Hopkinsville, has three or four cases of COVID-19. Three of those have been confirmed with a positive test for the novel coronavirus, he said.
There have been no deaths in Christian County from COVID-19, but the governor said 11 people in the state have died in the past 24 hours.
The Christian County Health Department has declined to identify any local cases by location and won’t comment on the report of coronavirus at Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville.

- Pediatric (0-21): 2
- Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 10
- Older Adult (60-85): 6
- Elderly (85+): 3

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus. The severity of the illness can range from mild to serious and even fatal.
Local and state officials, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have said you should wash your hands frequently and practice social distancing to help slow the spread of the virus. That means maintaining at least 6 feet of space between individuals outside of the home.
Everyone who can stay home should except to go out for essential needs such as groceries and medication.
Anyone who develops symptoms of COVID-19 — including a dry cough, fever or shortness of breath — should call their primary care doctor.
If you don’t have a doctor, you should not go to an emergency room without first calling the hospital. ER personnel must be prepared in advance for patients to prevent the spread of the virus.
