Ferrell’s heavily damaged in late night fire; grill likely was the cause

The small Main Street restaurant has been a fixture of downtown Hopkinsville since 1936.

A fire broke out at Ferrell’s hamburger restaurant in Hopkinsville late Thursday night.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Capt. Michael Pendleton said dispatch received a call at 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy flames and smoke coming out of the front and the sides of the building. He said there’s a lot of smoke and fire damage.

“There were two employees in the business at the time and they evacuated promptly and there were no patrons in the restaurant at the time of the fire,” Pendleton said. “There were no injuries reported.”

Pendleton said the fire came from the grill and 15 firefighters from three stations were on the scene and it took two minutes to put the fire out.

(Ferrell’s has been a fixture on Main Street since David and Cecil Ferrell established the little eatery in 1936 and named it Ferrell’s Snappy Service. Their son, Phillip Ferrell, now owns the business.)

Ferrell’s in Madisonville suffered from a similar fire last September and reopened last month.
