Dossett to chair Kentucky House Agriculture Committee

Dossett said that being a native of Christian County, which is among the top producers of corn, soybeans, wheat and tobacco in Kentucky, gives him a “first-hand appreciation” for farming and its impact on the commonwealth. 

Ninth District state Rep. Myron Dossett, R-Pembroke, has been named chair of the House Agriculture Committee, according to a press release from the Kentucky House Majority Caucus.

“The chair oversees the review of bills and initiatives impacting farming practices, agribusiness, rural development, and food production,” the release states. “Dossett will work closely with stakeholders, including farmers, agricultural organizations, and government agencies, to address issues like sustainability, land use, and market access.”

Dossett said that being a native of Christian County, which is among the top producers of corn, soybeans, wheat and tobacco in Kentucky, gives him a “first-hand appreciation” for farming and its impact on the commonwealth. 

“I’m incredibly honored to lead this committee and appreciate the opportunity to working on policies that support our farmers, strengthen rural development, and build on our agricultural heritage,” he said.

He previously co-chaired the Kentucky General Assembly’s Tobacco Settlement Oversight Committee. The panel oversees the legislature’s administration of Kentucky’s portion of the multi-billion Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.

Dossett has represented the Ninth District since 2007.

The General Assembly’s Regular Session will convene Jan. 7 and legislators will meet for 30 legislative days before adjourning by March 30.
