Dinner Church seeking home bakers to donate Christmas Eve desserts

Volunteers are preparing to serve 400 to 450 meals for the holiday meal.

On Christmas Eve, the Breaking Bread Community Dinner Church will be serving 400 to 450 to-go meals — and organizers are asking home bakers in Hopkinsville to help by donating desserts.

Anyone who can donate cupcakes, brownies or other sweets is asked to deliver those to the Aaron McNeil House, 604 E. Second St., between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, said Dinner Church director Donna Williams. Meals will be served beginning around 1 p.m.

Williams, a Methodist minister, established the Dinner Church in late 2019 and initially served a free meal every Thursday evening to several dozen people in the Aaron McNeil House community room. She shifted to to-go meals after COVID-19 made it difficult to gather in person.

Demand for the Thursday meal has grown steadily and volunteers now feed 400 or more meals every Thursday.

In addition to the weekly meal, Dinner Church provides special holiday meals on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
