CSX is preparing to close 4 rail crossings downtown

Work to close the crossings will start on March 23, the mayor's office said.

CSX Transportation will barricade four railroad crossings in downtown Hopkinsville on Wednesday, March 23 — at East Fifth, East Sixth, East 11th and East 12th streets between Clay and Campbell streets — in preparation for permanently closing the crossings to vehicle traffic, city officials announced.

Drivers should pay attention to marked detours and use caution near rail equipment, the mayor’s office said in a press release.

The closures are the result of an agreement between CSX and the city that Hopkinsville City Council approved on final reading in February.

City council will have to discuss additional changes if the members want to completely close those four streets for one block on each side of the rail line, which would be from Clay to Campbell streets.
