County confirms 29 more cases of COVID-19; state database reports 1 new death here

So far this month, 279 new cases have been reported — more than half of all local cases confirmed since the first positive test in mid-March.

Following a brief stretch of days with newly confirmed coronavirus cases mostly in the single digits, the Christian County Health Department on Wednesday reported 29 new cases of the novel coronavirus.

So far this month, 279 new cases have been reported — more than half of all local COVID-19 cases confirmed since the first positive test in mid-March. As of Wednesday, the county had reported 527 total cases.

Data released by the state Wednesday also included one previously unreported death at Covington’s Convalescent, the facility’s second. The death was not reported in the local health department’s release Wednesday, and a message to the department’s spokesperson was not immediately returned. A state spokesperson was unable to immediately provide further details.

While the Christian County Health Department does not provide information to the public on coronavirus in local facilities, the death of an 80-year-old man last week coincided with the state’s first report of a death at Covington’s Convalescent. It was the county’s fifth death attributed to coronavirus complications.

According to the state’s long-term care facility report, Covington’s has three residents and four staff members who are currently positive for the virus; two residents and one staff member who have recovered; and two residents who have died due to COVID-19.

Positive cases have also been identified at Bradford Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation, Carriage Hall and the Western State Nursing Facility.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 180 local cases of COVID-19 are considered active — a 20% increase from two weeks ago when active cases were at 150. The breakdown by age of active cases is:

  • Youth (0-21): 36
  • Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 102
  • Older Adult (60-84): 34
  • Elderly (85+): 8
