Stone cold grey stone once shining white
monument to a life
Day and year year and day the time is shown
whether young or old
Placed on a height setting is the key
to understanding
Land yields life body returns to the land
Still home for the man
At first only the land not yet a home
his family could own
A feeling of security came only after years
of sweat blood and tears
After their struggle his task was complete
then he became the land’s to keep
Some time though long after he died
the inheritance he built was denied
Now he and his wife lie still and alone
the great-grandchildren long long gone
So the briars and bushes grow over them there
now the land protects them and sees to their care
