Consignment store fire closes Fort Campbell Boulevard

The fire was reported at 4:45 a.m. All four Hopkinsville fire stations responded to the blaze.

A consignment store fire, fueled by a large amount of clothing material in the building, is burning on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

“The roof has collapsed,” fire department Capt. Michael Pendleton told Hoptown Chronicle shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday. “They are having a real tough time getting to these hot spots because the building is not stable.”

The fire at Sassystuff Consignment was reported at 4:45 a.m. by an Oak Grove police officer who was driving on the Boulevard and saw smoke coming from the building, said Pendleton.

All four Hopkinsville fire stations have responded to the blaze. The Boulevard is closed from Nelson Drive to Sunnyvale Lane. One lane of 21st Street behind the consignment store is closed, along with a section of Nelson Drive from the Boulevard to Morningside Drive.

No injuries have been reported.

It appeared the building will not be saved. Firefighters were working to prevent the blaze from spreading. The one-story, concrete-block consignment store sits between DJ’s Flooring and Superior Auto. Pendleton said neither of those businesses was in danger of burning.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

“We have put a lot of water on this thing,” he said.
