Cold weather shelter opening at Salvation Army

The Extreme Weather Shelter is located in the soup kitchen on Seventh Street.

The Hopkinsville Salvation Army will open its Extreme Weather Event shelter at 7 Halloween night, marking the first shelter night for cold weather this season.

The EWE shelter — located in the soup kitchen at 313 E. Seventh St. — opens any night the wind chill is forecast to be below 20 degrees, the agency announced in a Facebook post. Entrance to the shelter is through the rear door.

Sleeping cots and snacks are made available to anyone needing a place to stay warm overnight.
