Hopkinsville’s Christmas parade will be pushed back two hours and start at 7:15 p.m. Saturday because of rain anticipated in the afternoon.
The decision to delay the parade was made after consulting with the National Weather Service, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman said in a press release. Light rain is expected in the afternoon but should move out before the new starting time, he said.
“We know weather forecasting is an inexact science but we are making the changes based upon the best info we have at this time,” he said in the release. “We hope this change makes for better weather for all participating in the parade and the thousands who will be downtown to watch the parade.”
The change also affects the lineup schedule for floats and other entries as follows:
- Floats are to report to their designated area by 5 p.m., and judging will be at 5:30 p.m.
- All other units should report between 5 and 6 p.m. and must be in place by 6:30 p.m.
The parade has a large number of entries with a record (at least by recent standards) 23 floats and 94 total units, officials said.
Parade-watchers can line South Main Street’s sidewalks to view the procession. It will run from Glass Avenue to 14th Street.
