Christian County’s 7-day average doubles in less than a week

Tuesday's daily total was among the highest reported locally since the pandemic began.

The Christian County Health Department on Tuesday reported 29 new cases of coronavirus, pushing the seven-day rolling average to 12. Less than a week ago, the average was six — the lowest it had been in nearly two months.

Tuesday’s daily total was among the highest reported locally since the pandemic began, having only been exceeded twice before. Forty-three cases were reported on June 25 and 34 cases were reported on July 17. On July 29, the daily total was also 29. On Saturday, local health officials confirmed 26 new cases.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 980 people in Christian County had tested positive for COVID-19. According to the health department, 243 cases are active and 723 are classified as recovered. Fourteen local deaths have been attributed to the virus.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday reported 273 new cases statewide, acknowledging a lag in reporting due to the holiday weekend. One new death was reported, pushing the total number of coronavirus deaths statewide to 997.

“Because of labs being closed for the holiday, we should anticipate having large numbers for cases and deaths during the next few days,” Beshear said.

As of Tuesday, the number of active cases by age reported by the health department are:

  • Youth (0-21): 58
  • Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 126
  • Older Adult (60-84): 42
  • Elderly (85+): 17
