Christian County sees fourth straight day of double-digit COVID-19 cases

Saturday's report from the Christian County Health Department brings the county's total COVID-19 cases to 323 since the pandemic began in March.

The Christian County Health Department reported 10 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, marking the fourth day in a row the county has reported new cases in the double digits.

Saturday’s report brings the county’s total to 323 since the pandemic began in March. Of those cases, 116 are active and 203 have recovered, according to the department. Four people have died from COVID-19 related complications.

The number of confirmed, active cases by age group are:

  • Pediatric (0-21): 20
  • Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 76
  • Older Adult (60-84): 17
  • Elderly (85+): 3

The county has seen a 43% increase in cases over the past two weeks, following a report on June 26 of 226 total cases.

A statewide mask requirement went into effect at 5 p.m. Friday in an effort to help curb the spread of the virus. Gov. Andy Beshear said he ordered the mask requirement because recent increases threaten to escalate the spread in Kentucky.

On Saturday, Beshear announced 453 new cases and two deaths attributed to COVID-19, bringing the state up to 19,121 cases and 622 deaths.

“We have another day of really high numbers of COVID-19 cases,” said Beshear. “This is another day where it shows that we are no longer in a plateau but cases are increasing. We must act now.”
