The Christian County Health Department reported 20 new COVID-19 cases Monday, bringing the total active count to 134 — the largest number of active cases to date.
Monday’s report is among the county’s highest single-day totals yet. Health officials reported 43 cases on June 25, following a spike involving workers at a construction site for an Oak Grove horse track. Twenty new cases were also confirmed Wednesday, following Fourth of July festivities.
As the county comes off the highest number of cases reported within a single week, it is seeing an uptick in testing — and positive percentages.
The average number of people seen at the drive-thru COVID-19 testing site at Tie Breaker Park has nearly doubled so far this month when compared with June. The percentage of those tests that have been positive also has increased — from 2% in May to 6% in June.
Health officials have attributed increased testing to concern over the local spike, as well as people returning from vacation.
As of Monday, there have been 343 total confirmed cases reported in the county. Of those, 205 have recovered and four have died from coronavirus complications.
The number of confirmed, active cases by age group are:
- Pediatric (0-21): 25
- Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 89
- Older Adult (60-84): 17
- Elderly (85+): 3
