Citing conditions on roads and at campuses, officials with Christian County Public Schools canceled in-person instruction Monday but said rising temperatures would likely result in schools opening on Tuesday. Private schools and government offices will be open.
District spokeswoman Johnna Brown said in a press release, “… we anticipate returning to school on Tuesday but will provide an update around 5 p.m. [Monday] regarding any potential closures or delays for Tuesday.”
Monday will be the public school district’s sixth consecutive non-traditional instruction, or NTI, day, meaning students are expected to complete assigned work at home.
A combination of frigid temperatures, snow, then snow and ice, resulted in school closures and some closures for businesses and government office in the past week. The school district was last in session on Thursday, Jan. 11. Although one day, Martin Luther King Day when schools were on holiday, occurred during that stretch.
According to the National Weather Service forecast, Monday’s high will be 44. Rain is likely in the evening, but the low temperature will remain a few degrees above freezing.
Rain is in likely every day through Thursday, then possible through the end of the week. But temperatures will gradually increase, reaching a high of 50 on Tuesday, 60 on Wednesday and 63 on Thursday.
