Christian County Health Department reports 5 new COVID-19 cases

As the county sees the lowest seven-day rolling average in nearly two months, health officials urge residents to continue following guidelines in order to avoid another post-holiday weekend surge.

Christian County reported five new coronavirus cases on Thursday, pushing the total number of local cases confirmed since the pandemic began to 907.

Thursday marked the first time in nearly two months that the county’s seven-day rolling average of new cases has dipped to six. The last time it was that low was on July 9, just days after the Fourth of July holiday weekend. In the weeks that followed, the county saw a significant spike in cases.

As Labor Day weekend approaches, health officials warn that residents must continue to be diligent in order to avoid a similar outcome.

“We’ve seen several clusters come from gatherings across our county,” County Health Director Kayla Bebout said Wednesday in a teleconference. “… with Labor Day coming up, that’s going to be very crucial and very important as we continue to fight this.”

As of Thursday, the active local cases by age group were:

  • Youth (0-21): 60
  • Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 130
  • Older Adult (60-84): 34
  • Elderly (85+): 9
