Christian County confirms 5 new COVID-19 cases, active total reaches 191

As of Sunday, 40% of all Christian County coronavirus cases confirmed since the pandemic began locally were active.

The Christian County Health Department reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the number of active cases to 191.

The county’s active total comprises 40% of all cases confirmed since the pandemic began locally on March 19. Since then, 479 coronavirus cases have been reported and 283 people have recovered after previously testing positive. There have been five deaths attributed to the virus.

As of Sunday, the confirmed, active cases by age group were:

  • Youth (0-21): 45
  • Young Adult-Middle Age (22-59): 114
  • Older Adult (60-84): 25
  • Elderly (85+): 7

Last week, the county saw the second-highest weekly total of new coronavirus cases with 63 cases. The highest weekly total was reported the previous week with 88 cases.

As the state comes off a week with its highest daily numbers yet, Gov. Andy Beshear says he will announce further steps on Monday aimed at curbing the virus’ spread.

Beshear has already instituted a mask mandate, reduced the number of people allowed to attend social gatherings from 50 to 10, issued a travel advisory and asked that religious organizations suspend in-person services.
