Charles Booker, the former Kentucky state representative who twice sought a U.S. Senate seat, will be the guest speaker for the Freedom Fund Gala sponsored by Hopkinsville’s NAACP chapter on Saturday, April 27, at the Pioneer Complex.
The gala, a formal dinner and dance, raises money for NAACP Branch 3092 scholarships and other programming. It will begin at 6 p.m. Along with Booker’s keynote address, the gala will include the presentation of five college scholarships to local high school seniors, said branch member Javanta Dawson.
Booker, a Louisville native, is director of the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based Initiatives and Community Involvement. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and his law degree from the University of Louisville.
He served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021 and twice ran for the U.S. Senate — losing in the 2020 Democratic primary to former U.S. Marine pilot Amy McGrath and in the 2022 general election to incumbent Republican Sen. Rand Paul.
A limited number of gala tickets are available. The price is $50 for an individual or $400 for a table. For more information about tickets, contact Dawson at 804-536-2033 or email the local branch at secretarynaacp3092@gmail.com
