Two students at Christian County High School recently won recognition in the 2021 Congressional Art Competition, U.S. Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) announced.
Kaitlyn McKay won first place from Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District for her drawing titled “Derby Horse.” It depicts a racehorse in the classic checkerboard blinders worn by Secretariat.
Anna Maddux won second place from Comer’s district for a sketch titled “The Friendly Miner.” It is a portrait of a man wearing a miner’s helmet and lamp.
The Congressional Art Competition was established in 1982. More than 650,000 high school students have participated in the competition. They submit works to their representative’s office, and the winning pieces are displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
“Congratulations to Kaitlyn and Anna on their outstanding artwork,” Comer said in a news release. “The 2021 Congressional Art Competition included many excellent submissions, and I am proud to select these two pieces to represent Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District in Washington.”
