Hoptown Chronicle is the featured local nonprofit for the month of July at Hopkinsville Brewing Co.
Every month, the brewery selects a different nonprofit in the community and donates 1 percent of gross sells to the organization.
“I have a soft spot for the nonprofits that don’t get a lot of attention or publicity or grant money,” brewery co-owner Kate Russell said. “It’s not just about the money — 1 percent of our gross sales isn’t a lot in the grand scheme of things. It’s a way to shine a light on the smaller nonprofits and let the community know what all is available.”
Hoptown Chronicle is an independent, nonprofit news outlet devoted to public service journalism from the heart of town. Jennifer P. Brown, a longtime Hopkinsville journalist, is the editor and founder.
The website, www.hoptownchronicle.org, launched in early June. Two weeks later, more than a hundred supporters attended Hoptown Chronicle’s launch party at the brewery.
Shortly before the website launched, Hoptown Chronicle received IRS approval for the 501(c)(3) designation. That means contributions are tax-deductible.
Hoptown Chronicle relies on financial support from donors to keep all of the stories free to read online.

Hopkinsville Brewing is downtown at Fifth and Virginia streets. The brewery opens are at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and at 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
