Boulevard flooded at Masonville underpass

Christian County Public Schools reported multiple county roads were impassible Monday, and the district switched to virtual instruction.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Fort Campbell Boulevard were shut down because of high water at the Masonville underpass, local and state officials reported Sunday evening. The underpass is near Nova Dell subdivision south of Hopkinsville.

Motorists were advised to detour the area by using Lovers Lane and the Pennyrile Parkway, a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokeswoman said in a news release.

Christian County Public Schools were in virtual instruction Monday because of flooding on multiple county roads. No food services will be available, a district spokesman said.

Flash flooding occurred in several low-lying areas throughout the day and evening Sunday. Hopkinsville received 2.9 inches of rain Sunday, according to the Mesonet weather site.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Christian County that expired Sunday night.

“With nighttime upon us, be extremely careful if you must be out and about. The dangers of flooding are harder to recognize at night,” the NWS said.

Rain will be heavy throughout the night, according to the forecast.
