Boulevard Bash on June 15 will highlight support for Hopkinsville’s small businesses

The idea grew out of a discussion about how to support all of the city’s small businesses — not just those downtown.

An event highlighting support for Hopkinsville’s small businesses along the commercial strip of Fort Campbell Boulevard is planned Saturday, June 15.

The Boulevard Bash will have food trucks, live music, entertainment, an art show and children’s activities at various locations, along with promotions in several stores, said Diane Turner, administrative coordinator for the city of Hopkinsville.

The idea grew out of a discussion about how to support all of the city’s small businesses, not just those downtown that have gained traction and attention in recent years.

“It started out as a grassroots effort,” said Turner.

City officials agreed to back the plan as a title sponsor with a $2,000 contribution from Mayor James R. Knight Jr.’s discretionary fund.

Businesses that are participating in the Boulevard Bash will have signage at their locations that day. Activities will start at 10 a.m., when most businesses open, and continue into the evening.

Some businesses near the Boulevard have also pitched in to participate, including Butler’s Antique on Walnut Street and the Fun Zone at Skyline Drive, said Turner.

Underground Hoptown, a collaborative for artists organized by photographer and painter Cat Lacy, will have a show in the area between the Townplace and Hampton Inn on Richard Mills Drive. Any artists interested in joining the show should contact Lacy at 270-604-1405.

Among businesses that are looking to gain attention from potential customers are several new ventures in the revamped Pennyrile Marketplace. The strip mall has recently become fully occupied and will have a ceremonial grand opening on Friday, June 14.

The new small businesses at Pennyrile Marketplace include:

  • Blush and Bashful Romance Bookshop
  • ASPIRE Therapy Services
  • Cavanaugh Pool, Spa & Patio
  • The Little Things Boutique (children’s clothing)
  • Bambinos (pizza restaurant)
  • Ruffled Willow Floral Co.
  • Salons (several beauticians and barbers)
  • Styling Spaces (home décor)
  • It’s All Goodies (gifts and candy)
  • The Groomery (dog grooming)
  • Krazy Kraft
  • Joelle’s Cake & Coffee

Four music groups will play for the Boulevard Bash outside The Showbox cinema behind Bradford Square. Those include the Todd County Boys at 4 p.m., Jackson at 5 p.m., Black Cat Cadillac at 6 p.m. and Alonzo Pennington at 7 p.m. Guests should bring lawn chairs.
