Never before has Christian County reported as many new coronavirus cases in a seven-day period as over the last week.

The county has reported more new coronavirus cases within a seven-day period only once before, just a week and a half ago.

Wednesday marked the third day in a row that local health officials reported more than 20 new coronavirus cases in a single day.

As the virus continues to spread in Christian County, health officials caution residents to remember that people who are asymptomatic can still spread COVID-19.

The health department reported 51 new cases this week — nearly half of last week's total and less than any week in the month of July.

It is the county's third death attributed to COVID-19 in the last two weeks.

Previously, the largest reported number of patients known to have COVID-19 was seven.

So far this month, 279 new cases have been reported — more than half of all local cases confirmed since the first positive test in mid-March.

The report brings the county's total of confirmed cases since the pandemic began locally to 485. Of those, 185 are active and 295 are recovered, according to the health department.

As of Sunday, 40% of all Christian County coronavirus cases confirmed since the pandemic began locally were active.

The department also provided information on how to report COVID-19 complaints in the community.

The individual is the second known employee of Hopkinsville Community College to test positive for the novel coronavirus.
