LaFayette Road closure at Lovers Lane marks start of redesign

The project, which is planned in two phases, will improve safety at the intersection with a better line of sight for motorists and the addition of turning lanes, state highway officials said.

A major highway project to redesign and improve the safety of LaFayette Road in the area of Lovers Lane for motorists began this week. The road is expected to remain closed through the end of October, according to a press release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

“The project includes improving the grade and elevation of [LaFayette Road] at its intersection with Lovers Lane to provide better line of sight for motorists, and adding turn lanes to [LaFayette Road] and Lovers Lane at this intersection,” a spokesman said in the press release.

During the closure, utilities in the area (including buried water lines and any utility poles) will be moved.

In a second phase of this project, the new roadway will be constructed. This will require the road to be closed from early April until mid-September of 2027.
