Back to the Stadium: Superintendent Chris Bentzel reverses decision on graduation site

The decision to switch back to an outdoor ceremony at the stadium, instead of ceremonies in the two high school gyms, came after district officials heard pushback from students and community members.

The last graduating seniors of Hopkinsville and Christian County high schools will not have graduation ceremonies in their school gyms, as district officials previously announced

Superintendent Chris Bentzel said Thursday in a video message that both schools will have graduation at the Stadium of Champions, which has been the site for graduations for the past several years.

The decision to switch back to an outdoor ceremony at the stadium came after district officials heard pushback from students and community members.

The Christian County High School graduation will be at 5 p.m. on May 22, and Hopkinsville High School’s graduation will follow at 8:30 p.m.

Both schools will close at the end of this school year.

A new consolidated Christian County High School on Lovers Lane at Fort Campbell Boulevard will open in August.
