First United Methodist musicians to present Holy Week cantata

“The Passion of Jesus Christ" is an oratorio written for soprano, countertenor, baritone, choir, and orchestra.

The First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra will present a Holy Week cantata with an original work by the church’s musical director, Heejung Park, at the 9 and 11 a.m. services on Sunday, March 29.

Titled “The Passion of Jesus Christ,” it is an oratorio written for soprano, countertenor, baritone, choir, and orchestra.

The performance will feature soprano Sorae Kim, who is Park’s wife. Also performing will be countertenor Minsang Kim, who is a vocal professor at Austin Peay State University, baritone Seungho Cha, of Mannes Opera in New York, and actor Turner Vaughn.

Park and his wife began working with First United Methodist in June. In December they performed Christmas programs that attracted large audiences.
