The eighth annual Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk is planned Sept. 21 at the Stadium of Champions, 9503 Eagle Way.
The event raises awareness and donations that help fund mental health research, educational programs, public policy advocacy and support for suicide loss survivors. The Hopkinsville walk is affiliated with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
“We have a strong and resilient community that’s united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience,” organizers said in a promotional flyer.
Those interested in joining the walk can sign up online prior to the event. Individuals and teams that participate will seek donations from supporters. Also, anyone may donate to the Hopkinsville walk through this link.
Individuals who raise at least $150 by Sept. 21 will receive an Out of the Darkness T-shirt at the walk, according to the website.
Check-in will begin at 1 p.m. on the day of the walk. Event starts at 2 p.m.
Games will be available for all ages, and several food trucks are slated to be at the stadium. Those include 3TY’S Famous Grape Salad, G’ BBQ, Kona Ice and Ardelle’s Cafe and More (pizza). The Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority will set up its Water Monster Machine.
