Two events are planned in Hopkinsville to commemorate the Eighth of August, the date when residents of Hopkinsville and surrounding communities have traditionally celebrated the emancipation of their enslaved ancestors.

Taste of the Town
The third annual Taste of the Town food fest is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Hopkinsville Brewing Co., 102 E. Fifth St.
Organized by Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats, the event will feature several Black-owned food and dessert vendors, plus music and games.
Human Rights Commission celebration
The Hopkinsville Human Rights Commission will host its Eighth of August event from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Pennyroyal Area Museum, 217 E. Ninth St. The HRC event at the museum will be a tribute to African American history.
“Come out and learn more about Emancipation while enjoying good food, music, activities, historical presentations and much more,” organizers said in a Facebook post.
