Friends plan fundraiser to help family of Pembroke man

The group is cooking and selling Boston butts and whole chickens to support the family of Tim Downs, who died of complications from a brain tumor.

Friends of Tim Downs — a Pembroke man who was seriously ill with a brain tumor and died over the weekend — will be cooking and selling Boston butts and whole chicken, and donating the proceeds to the Downs family. Downs, a Pembroke resident, was the owner-operator of Downs’ Painting Service.

State Rep. Myron Dossett, who is helping organize the effort, confirmed that Downs died Saturday. He said the fundraiser will help the family with their expenses.

The meat will be cooked on June 2 and 3, and supporters may start picking up their orders at noon on June 3 at Pembroke Baptist Church.

Orders should be placed no later than June 1 by contacting Dossett (270-305-1597), Gary Porter (270-498-9822) or Monte Strode (270-348-6949).

The cost is $45 for butts and $12 for chickens, and payment needs to be with a check or cash. Checks should be made payable to Pembroke Baptist Church.
