CASA selling pork chop sandwiches May 19

The fundraiser will support efforts by the Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Christian County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates, better known as CASA, will sell pork chop sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, for the group’s spring fundraiser.

Tickets are $8 for the sandwich, chips and dessert, and orders should be placed in advance by calling 270-875-1666. Orders can be picked up at 515 Weber St., behind the Christian County Courthouse.

CASA trains and supervises volunteers who serve as court-appointed advocates for children, many of whom have been removed from homes and placed in foster care or with other relatives.

Currently the group has eight active volunteer advocates and two in training, Executive Director Kira Bailey told Hoptown Chronicle.

“Since Summer of 2022, we’ve advocated for approximately 40 children in the family court system,” she said.

The next volunteer training program will begin in early July. Participants attend a two-hour, in-person session, usually every Monday for five consecutive weeks. Anyone interested in volunteering can find more information online

The CASA board officers are chairwoman Bonnie Lynch, secretary Amber Cox and treasurer Donna Johnson.
