Hopkinsville cross walk planned on Good Friday

Community members can join the walk. It starts in front of the courthouse.

Community members are invited to join Hopkinsville’s annual Good Friday Cross Walk beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, April 7, in front of the Christian County Courthouse, 511 S. Main St.

The Christian County Ministerial Association organizes the cross walk with stops at different churches downtown to reflect on Christ’s journey to the cross, said the Rev. Lisa Lewis Balboa, pastor of Freeman Chapel CME Church.

Typically, the work is about one mile long, and different participants take turns carrying a large wooden cross. It ends at Pioneer Cemetery.

The local tradition began more than 20 years ago but was suspended during the coronavirus pandemic. It resumed in 2022.

Friday’s weather will be mild and somewhat windy, with cloudy skies and a high of 61 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast
